This bill prohibits the court from requiring a defendant in a housing matter to pay any amount of money into court, post a bond, or provide any other form of security prior to the final disposition of the action, except for appeals as provided in existing law. The bill amends two sections of Minnesota Statutes related to eviction proceedings: Section 504B.285, which addresses the combination of allegations of nonpayment of rent and material lease violations, and Section 504B.335, which governs the answer and trial process in housing matters. The changes made by this bill apply to actions filed on or after August 1, 2022.
