This bill provides that the State will reimburse school districts for the costs of transporting homeless students to and from school. Under current law, the district of residence is responsible for paying these transportation costs. The bill amends the existing law to require the State to reimburse the district that provides transportation to a homeless student for the costs of transporting the child. This change applies to both homeless students who attend school in a district other than their district of residence, as well as those who attend school in their district of residence while temporarily residing in another district.
