This bill proposes to expand the motor vehicle registration fee exemption for disabled veterans in Iowa. Specifically, it would exempt disabled veterans with a service-related disability rating of 50% or higher from paying registration fees for one vehicle, and provide them with regular or special military registration plates without a fee. The bill also allows these disabled veterans to continue using any nonmilitary special or personalized plates they were previously issued, without having to pay the additional fees for those plates. Additionally, the bill clarifies that disabled veterans with certain government-provided vehicles are not required to apply for a separate persons with disabilities parking permit, as the regular registration plates for their vehicle already entitle them to those benefits.
