This bill requires health plans in Minnesota that provide maternity benefits to also cover procedures related to infertility diagnosis and treatment, including ovulation induction, in vitro fertilization, and other assisted reproductive technologies. The coverage must be medically necessary and recognized by leading medical associations. The bill defines infertility as a disease affecting the reproductive system that interferes with an individual's ability to achieve a pregnancy or a woman's ability to carry a pregnancy to live birth. The bill excludes health plans offered under the state's Medicaid (chapter 256B) and MinnesotaCare (chapter 256L) programs, and it takes effect on August 1, 2022, applying to all health plans issued or renewed on or after that date.
