This bill requires certain ratios of school library media specialists to students in public schools in New Jersey. Specifically, it mandates that schools with fewer than 300 students have at least one half-time staff member with a school library media specialist certification, schools with 300 to 1,499 students have at least one full-time staff member with that certification, and schools with 1,500 or more students have at least two full-time staff members with that certification. It also requires schools with 500 or more students to employ at least one full-time library clerk, with an additional full-time library clerk for every 500 additional students. Additionally, the bill outlines the minimum amount of time a school library media specialist must devote to library work based on the school's enrollment. The bill takes effect immediately and will first apply to the first full school year following enactment.
