This Joint Resolution designates March of each year as "Fibromuscular Dysplasia Awareness Month" in New Jersey to increase public and medical understanding of Fibromuscular Dysplasia (FMD), a disease characterized by abnormal cell growth in artery walls that can lead to serious complications like narrowing, tears, or aneurysms. The resolution highlights that FMD, though often considered rare, may be under-diagnosed and disproportionately affects women, with limited understanding of its causes or cures, and that patients and their families often face challenges in diagnosis and treatment. It also acknowledges the efforts of the Fibromuscular Dysplasia Society of America (FMDSA), founded in March, in raising awareness and supporting research, and requests the Governor to issue an annual proclamation encouraging appropriate observances of this month.
