This bill proposes to establish an Office of Global Criminal Justice within the Department of State. It would assist in formulating U.S. policy on the prevention of and accountability for these crimes, coordinate the U.S. government's positions on international and hybrid courts prosecuting such crimes, and work with other governments and organizations to investigate, document, and prosecute atrocities around the world. The office would also coordinate the deployment of diplomatic, legal, economic, and other tools to help collect evidence, prosecute those responsible, protect and assist victims, enable reconciliation, and promote the rule of law.
