Bill Summary

AN ACT to amend the transportation law, in relation to requiring certain for-hire vehicles to install and maintain an interior rear-facing video camera

AI Summary

This bill requires certain for-hire vehicles, such as taxis and rideshare vehicles with a seating capacity of six passengers or less (excluding black cars, limousines, and luxury limousines), to install and maintain an interior rear-facing video camera. The camera must record any operator or passenger entering or exiting the vehicle, store at least the most recent 60 hours of operation, and allow access to local law enforcement and regulatory authorities. The bill supersedes any local regulations on video cameras in these commercial vehicles and allows for the installation of front-facing cameras as well, as long as the minimum requirements are met.
