This bill amends the transportation law to require certain for-hire vehicles, such as taxis and rideshare vehicles with a seating capacity of six passengers or less (excluding black cars, limousines, and luxury limousines), to install and maintain an interior rear-facing video camera. The camera must record all passengers entering and exiting the vehicle and store at least the most recent 60 hours of operation. The video data must be accessible to local law enforcement and the local regulatory authority that licenses the vehicle for for-hire transportation services. The bill also allows the installation of front-facing cameras as long as the minimum requirements for the rear-facing camera are met, and requires the vehicle owner's insurance provider to have similar access to the front-facing camera data.
