This bill permits the court to order counseling for children in households with domestic violence, if appropriate. The bill amends existing law to require that when a domestic violence complaint is filed, both the victim and the abuser must be advised of any available programs or services for advice and counseling, including services available for children who may have witnessed or been exposed to domestic violence in the household. The bill also allows the court to order the defendant to pay for a child to receive professional domestic violence counseling at the plaintiff's request, and to provide reimbursement for costs incurred by the plaintiff associated with providing such counseling.
