Bill Summary
Relative to safety and violence education for students (the SAVE Students Act)
AI Summary
This bill, known as the SAVE Students Act, establishes a statewide anonymous reporting program that allows anyone to anonymously report unsafe, harmful, dangerous, life-threatening, violent, or unlawful activities occurring on school property or related to enrolled students or school personnel. The program will operate 24/7 with a crisis center staffed by trained counselors, and it will promptly forward reports to the appropriate school, law enforcement, or other authorities. The bill also requires schools to establish threat assessment teams, provides for student violence prevention training, and creates a Statewide Anonymous Reporting Program Trust Fund to support the program's operations. Additionally, it directs the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education to develop a model threat assessment policy for schools and establish lists of evidence-based suicide awareness/prevention and social inclusion trainings for students.
