This bill requires carriers, or their contracted vendors, to offer health care providers more than one method of payment for reimbursement, including but not limited to payment by credit card, electronic funds transfer, or check. It prohibits carriers from restricting out-of-network providers to only one form of payment. The bill also requires carriers to notify providers of any fees associated with a particular payment method and provide instructions on how to select each payment option. Providers can request a change in the available payment methods, which carriers must implement within 30 business days. Additionally, carriers cannot use a provider's preferred payment method as a factor in credentialing decisions. The bill is enforceable by the Department of Banking and Insurance, which can impose penalties for violations.
