This bill requires carriers (i.e., insurance companies, health service corporations, etc.) to offer health care providers more than one method of payment for reimbursement, including but not limited to payment by check and electronic funds transfer. Carriers are prohibited from restricting the payment method to only one form, such as credit card. The bill also mandates that carriers notify providers of any fees associated with payment methods and provide clear instructions on how to select each method. Additionally, carriers cannot use a provider's preferred payment method as a factor in credentialing decisions, and the provisions of the bill cannot be waived by contract. Violations of the bill are subject to enforcement and civil penalties by the Department of Banking and Insurance.
