This bill revises the definition of domestic violence in New Jersey to include psychological abuse and economic abuse. Specifically, the bill adds two new categories of domestic violence: (1) any offense involving psychological abuse that causes fear, serious alarm, or distress with a substantial adverse impact on a person's daily activities, and (2) economic abuse, which is defined as any behavior that substantially affects a person's ability to acquire, use, or maintain money, property, goods, or services. These additional provisions expand the scope of domestic violence beyond the existing list of criminal offenses to encompass more forms of abusive behavior.
