This bill revises the definition of domestic violence to include psychological abuse and economic abuse. Specifically, it adds two new categories to the definition of domestic violence: (1) any offense involving psychological abuse that causes fear, serious alarm, or distress and has a substantial adverse impact on a person's daily activities; and (2) economic abuse, which is defined as any behavior that has a substantial adverse effect on a person's ability to acquire, use, or maintain money, property, or obtain goods or services. The bill also maintains the existing list of criminal offenses, such as assault, stalking, and harassment, that constitute domestic violence. This change to the definition aims to provide greater protection for victims of domestic violence, including those experiencing non-physical forms of abuse.
