This bill amends an existing Oklahoma law to grant municipalities greater authority over lakes and surrounding lands that they own, either inside or outside their corporate limits. The key provisions allow municipalities to own, construct, maintain, and operate marinas, docks, and boathouses for amusement, parks, and recreational purposes. Municipalities can also lease or rent lots, spaces, and permits for the construction or use of privately-owned marinas, docks, or boathouses for similar purposes. The bill clarifies that lakes and lands adjoining and abutting municipal-owned or leased lakes can be used or leased for amusement, parks, or recreation without being declared surplus or unsuitable, as long as the governing body deems it a compatible use. Municipalities can also contract with other entities to manage and operate these municipal lakes and lands. The bill takes effect on November 1, 2024.
