This bill amends the South Carolina Code of Laws to increase the number of weeks of paid parental leave for eligible state employees in the event of the birth or adoption of a child. Specifically, it increases the paid parental leave from 6 weeks to 12 weeks for eligible employees who give birth, and from 2 weeks to 4 weeks for eligible employees who do not give birth but are responsible for caring for the child. The bill also expands the definition of an "eligible state employee" to include any person employed full-time by the state, its departments, agencies, or institutions, including those employed by four-year or postgraduate institutions of higher education and technical colleges supported by the state.
