This bill amends the New York Penal Law to expand the definition of "aggravated assault upon a police officer or a peace officer." Specifically, it creates two new scenarios under which this offense can be charged: (1) when the defendant intends to cause serious physical injury to a police officer or peace officer and does so using a deadly weapon or dangerous instrument, and (2) when the defendant intends to cause physical injury to a police officer or peace officer and is aided by two or more other persons who are present in a public place. The bill also adds language to clarify that the offense can be committed against officers of either gender.
