This bill establishes a teacher candidate loan forgiveness program administered by the University System of New Hampshire. The program provides loans of up to $10,000 to New Hampshire residents who are enrolled as full-time juniors or seniors in the University System, majoring in a degree program that will lead to teacher licensure in a high-need subject area. In exchange, recipients must agree to teach for at least 5 consecutive years in a school or district identified as having a critical teacher shortage area. The loans are forgiven at a rate of 20% per year of teaching in these shortage areas. The bill requires the University System and the Department of Education to adopt rules to implement the program.
