This bill lowers the age from 40 to 35 at which certain insurers, including hospital service corporations, medical service corporations, health service corporations, individual and group health insurers, and health maintenance organizations, are required to provide coverage for mammograms. It also requires coverage for additional screening and diagnostic testing, such as ultrasound evaluations and magnetic resonance imaging scans, in certain circumstances, such as when a mammogram demonstrates extremely dense breast tissue or if the patient has additional risk factors for breast cancer. The bill applies to all health benefits plans delivered, issued, executed, or renewed in New Jersey on or after the effective date of the act.
