This bill lowers the age at which certain insurers are required to provide coverage for mammograms. Specifically, it changes the required coverage from age 40 to age 35 for baseline mammograms, annual mammograms for women 35 and older, and mammograms for women under 35 with a family history of breast cancer or other risk factors. The bill also requires coverage for additional testing, such as ultrasounds or MRI scans, if certain conditions are met, like the mammogram showing extremely dense breast tissue or the patient having additional risk factors for breast cancer. These changes apply to group and individual health insurance policies, as well as health maintenance organizations, in the State of New Jersey.
