This bill, known as the Election Notary Accountability Act, requires notary publics to submit a copy of their notary log to the county election board within 30 days after an election. The log covers the 90 days preceding the election and is used to verify the number of ballots notarized by the notary public. Failure to comply can result in a misdemeanor charge and a fine of up to $500 per instance. The bill also subjects notaries to prosecution for election fraud if they intentionally provide a false copy of the log, and requires the county election board to notify the district attorney if a notary has notarized more than the authorized number of ballots or violated any other provision of the act, so that a criminal investigation can be conducted.
