Bill Summary

AN ACT to amend the executive law, in relation to parole eligibility for certain incarcerated persons aged fifty-five or older

AI Summary

This bill amends the Executive Law to create a new parole eligibility pathway for incarcerated individuals aged 55 or older who have served at least 15 years of their sentence. Under this new provision, the Board of Parole must conduct an interview within 60 days of the person's 55th birthday or 15th year of incarceration, whichever is later, to determine if they should be released to community supervision. If release is denied, the person must be reconsidered every 24 months. The bill also requires the Board to submit quarterly reports on the number of interviews, outcomes, and reasons for denials, without including personally identifiable information.
