AN ACT to amend the executive law, in relation to parole eligibility for certain incarcerated persons aged fifty-five or older
AI Summary
This bill amends the Executive Law to create a new process for parole eligibility for incarcerated persons aged 55 or older who have served at least 15 years of their sentence. The bill requires the Parole Board to conduct an interview within 60 days of the person's 55th birthday or 15th year of their sentence, whichever is later, to determine if they should be released to community supervision. If release is denied, the person must be informed in writing of the reasons and given a new interview date within 24 months. The bill also requires the Parole Board to submit quarterly reports on the number of interviews conducted, outcomes, and reasons for denials, without including personally identifiable information.
