This bill establishes green infrastructure objectives and policies for transportation systems, infrastructure, and projects in Hawaii. It requires the planning of these systems to incorporate green infrastructure to achieve climate and sustainability design objectives, such as minimizing stormwater runoff, reducing the urban heat island effect, and encouraging the removal and storage of pollutants and greenhouse gas emissions. The bill also establishes a green transportation infrastructure task force to examine, evaluate, and develop best practices for the department of transportation to guide, design, implement, and maintain green transportation infrastructure. The bill takes effect on July 1, 2050, with sections 2 and 3 taking effect on June 30, 2052.
