This bill amends the Correction Law to modify the registration and verification requirements for sex offenders in New York. It includes the following key provisions: 1. Requires certain level one risk sex offenders to register annually for life, rather than for 20 years, if they have been convicted of certain specified crimes. 2. Allows level one and level two sex offenders who have registered for a minimum of 30 years and have not been designated as sexual predators, sexually violent offenders, or predicate sex offenders to petition for relief from the duty to register. 3. Authorizes local or state law enforcement agencies to enact residency restrictions for certain high-risk and/or offenders against minors, limiting how close they can live to schools, their victims' homes and workplaces, or the prior residence of a deceased victim. 4. Includes a severability clause to maintain the validity of the rest of the law if any part is found unconstitutional.
