This bill amends the General Business Law to prohibit food-service establishments and retail establishments from refusing to accept payment in cash. The bill defines "food-service establishment" as an establishment that sells food or beverages for consumption on or off the premises, and "retail establishment" as an establishment that sells consumer commodities or provides services to consumers at retail. Violators of this law are subject to civil penalties of up to $250 for the first violation and up to $500 for each subsequent violation. The Department of Labor is authorized to promulgate rules to implement and enforce this new law, which will take effect 120 days after it becomes law.
