This bill amends the Education Law to allow students enrolled in approved postsecondary education experience or transition programs, which serve students with intellectual disabilities, to receive financial assistance from the Tuition Assistance Program. The bill sets out the requirements for an approved program, including providing individual supports and services for academic and social inclusion, a focus on academic enrichment, socialization, independent living skills, and integrated work experiences, as well as the integration of person-centered planning and the creation of a meaningful credential. The bill defines "students with intellectual disabilities" as those with an impairment of general intellectual functioning or adaptive behavior that constitutes a substantial handicap to their ability to function normally in society.
