Bill Summary
AN ACT to amend the public officers law, in relation to publishing records of public interest by agencies and the state legislature
AI Summary
This bill amends the Public Officers Law to require government agencies and the state legislature to publish on their websites records that are of substantial public interest and available under the Freedom of Information Law. The bill also provides guidance on creating accessible records and allows for the removal of records that are no longer of substantial public interest or have reached the end of their legal retention period. The provisions do not apply to records that would constitute an unwarranted invasion of personal privacy, and the Committee on Open Government is tasked with promulgating regulations to effectuate this new requirement. The bill seeks to enhance public access to government information and transparency.
