AI Summary
This bill aims to expand access to free breakfast and lunch meals for all students in participating schools in Maryland. Starting in fiscal year 2025, if a school participates in the federal School Breakfast Program or National School Lunch Program, the state will be required to offer a free meal to each student that meets U.S. Department of Agriculture nutritional standards. The state will fully reimburse the county boards and participating nonpublic schools for the cost of providing these free meals, except for students who qualify for reduced-price meals, whose reimbursement rates are set at 30-40 cents per meal. Additionally, the bill prohibits schools from charging any student for the cost of a qualifying breakfast or lunch meal.
