AI Summary

This bill aims to expand access to free breakfast and lunch programs in Maryland's primary and secondary schools. Starting in fiscal year 2025, the bill requires that if a school participates in the federal School Breakfast Program or National School Lunch Program, each student in the school must be offered a free meal that meets U.S. Department of Agriculture nutrition standards. The state will be responsible for reimbursing the full cost of these free meals to participating county boards and nonpublic schools, except for students eligible for reduced-price meals, for whom the state will use a lower reimbursement rate. The bill also prohibits schools from charging any student for the cost of these free meals.
