This bill requires buildings where certain solar battery energy storage systems are installed to be equipped with specific safety features, including a self-contained fire suppression system, an explosion prevention system, and an air quality monitoring system. The bill defines a "solar battery energy storage system" as one or more devices capable of storing energy produced by a solar energy system and having an aggregate energy capacity greater than 600 kilowatt-hours or comprising more than one storage battery technology installed in a single room or enclosed area. The State Fire Marshal is responsible for administering and enforcing this law and may adopt regulations to implement it. The bill will take effect on October 1, 2023.
