This bill directs the Department of Health to develop state food guidelines for foods and beverages purchased, served, and sold by all state agencies, programs, and institutions, including state government buildings, meetings, parks, universities, and correctional facilities. The guidelines must be consistent with or exceed the federal Dietary Guidelines for Americans and encourage the use of sustainably and locally grown New York state food products. The department must report the guidelines to state leadership and provide technical assistance to state agencies to implement the guidelines within 21 months of the bill's effective date. The guidelines are required to be reviewed and updated every five years to ensure they remain current and science-based.
