This bill directs the New York Department of Health, in consultation with the Office of General Services, to develop state food guidelines for foods and beverages purchased, served, and sold by all state agencies, programs, and institutions and on state property. The guidelines must be consistent with or exceed the federal Dietary Guidelines for Americans and include recommendations for using sustainably and locally grown New York state food products. The bill also requires state agencies to follow the guidelines when purchasing, serving, or selling food and beverages, and the Department of Health to provide technical and supervisory assistance to implement the guidelines.
