This bill defines "rapid whole genome sequencing" and requires the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration to include coverage of this service as a separately payable service for certain Medicaid recipients who are 21 years of age or younger, have a complex or acute illness of unknown etiology, and are receiving inpatient hospital services in an intensive care unit or high-acuity pediatric care unit. The bill also specifies that the genetic data generated from this sequencing can only be used to assist the ordering health care professional and treating care team, unless the patient or their legal guardian provides express consent for the data to be used in scientific research, and that the patient or guardian has the right to rescind this consent at any time.
