This bill requires the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA), subject to federal approval, to include coverage of rapid whole genome sequencing as a separately payable service for certain Medicaid recipients. Rapid whole genome sequencing is defined as an investigation of the entire human genome to identify disease-causing genetic changes, with preliminary results within 5 days and final results within 14 days. The bill specifies that the coverage applies to Medicaid recipients who are 20 years of age or younger, have a complex or acute illness of unknown etiology, and are receiving inpatient hospital services in an intensive care unit or a high-acuity pediatric care unit. The bill also requires AHCA to adopt rules to implement this new coverage.
