This bill requires lodging establishments that use fossil-fuel-burning equipment or have an attached garage to install approved, centrally-located carbon monoxide alarms in the vicinity of the fossil-fuel-burning equipment and in each guest room on the same floor within 18 months of the bill's effective date. The bill also holds the lodge owner responsible for maintaining, repairing, or replacing the alarms, and imposes a fine of up to $50 for willful failure to install or maintain the required alarms. The bill clarifies that it does not modify the existing authority and responsibilities of the Department of Labor and Industry under the Pennsylvania Construction Code Act.
