This bill, the Safe Guns, Safe Kids Act, amends Chapter 44 of Title 18 of the United States Code to require the secure storage of firearms. The key provisions of the bill are: 1) It is unlawful for a person to knowingly store or keep a firearm that has moved in interstate or foreign commerce on the premises of a residence under their control if they know or reasonably should know a minor (under 18 years of age) is likely to access the firearm without permission, and the minor uses the firearm to commit a crime or cause injury or death. 2) This does not apply if the person keeps the firearm secure using a storage device or in a location a reasonable person would believe to be secure, or if the person carries the firearm on their person or within close proximity. 3) Violation of these provisions can result in a fine, up to 5 years in prison, or both.
