This bill removes the provisions that prohibit cities of one million or more from strengthening rent regulation laws to provide more comprehensive coverage than state laws. The bill amends the local emergency housing rent control act to allow such cities, through their local legislative bodies, to adopt and amend local laws or ordinances for the regulation and control of residential rents, including setting maximum rents, classifying housing accommodations, regulating evictions, and enforcing such laws. The amendments made by this bill will remain in effect only as long as the public emergency requiring the regulation and control of residential rents and evictions continues.
