This bill removes provisions that prohibit cities with a population of one million or more from strengthening rent regulation laws to provide more comprehensive coverage than state laws. Specifically, the bill amends the Local Emergency Housing Rent Control Act to allow such cities to adopt and amend local laws or ordinances regarding the regulation and control of residential rents, including provisions for establishing and adjusting maximum rents, classifying housing accommodations, regulating evictions, and enforcing such local laws. The amendments made by this bill will remain in effect only as long as the public emergency requiring the regulation and control of residential rents and evictions continues.
