This bill proposes to require health insurers offering Medicare supplemental insurance plans to offer the same policies to individuals who are eligible for Medicare by reason of end-stage renal disease as the insurer offers to individuals who are eligible for Medicare by reason of age or disability. The bill also specifies that the initial enrollment period for such policies shall be at least six months following the date the individual becomes eligible for Medicare by reason of disability or end-stage renal disease, and that any additional enrollment periods offered to individuals eligible by reason of age shall also be offered to individuals eligible by reason of disability or end-stage renal disease. The bill will take effect on January 1, 2024 and apply to all Medicare supplemental health insurance plans issued on and after that date, or on such date as a health insurer offers, issues, or renews the plan, but no later than January 1, 2025.
