This bill establishes an academic acceleration pilot program to be implemented in six school districts or charter schools during the 2024-2025 to 2026-2027 school years. The program requires participating districts to automatically enroll students who meet certain eligibility criteria, such as meeting or exceeding the state standard on standardized assessments, in advanced coursework like Advanced Placement (AP) and concurrent enrollment courses. Participating districts must also prioritize recruiting and supporting teachers of color, notify parents about the automatic enrollment policy, and collect and report data on student participation and outcomes. The bill appropriates funding for the pilot program, allowing districts to use the funds for teacher training, instructional materials, tutoring, and other related expenses. At the end of the pilot, the Commissioner of Education must submit a report to the legislature with recommendations on implementing a statewide academic acceleration program.
