This bill amends the Education Law and the Mental Hygiene Law to require the training of teachers, administrators, and instructors in the area of mental health response. The training will include instruction on recognizing the signs and symptoms of mental health crises or illnesses, appropriate responses to such situations, and information about mental health resources and supports. The Office of Mental Health will advise and assist the Commissioner of Education in developing the training curriculum. The bill is intended to help prepare educators to better support students and communities in managing mental health challenges.
