This bill amends the Occupations Code to expand the medical use of low-THC cannabis by patients with certain medical conditions. Specifically, it increases the maximum allowed THC content from 1% to 5% by weight, and adds new qualifying conditions such as chronic pain, post-traumatic stress disorder, and any other debilitating condition designated by the Department of State Health Services. The bill also allows physicians to prescribe low-THC cannabis to patients who are permanent residents of Texas and meet the other requirements, such as being diagnosed with one of the qualifying conditions and having the physician determine that the potential benefits outweigh the risks.
