This bill amends the Insurance Code to expand the definition of "autism spectrum disorder" to include a neurobiological disorder or developmental disability that significantly affects verbal communication, nonverbal communication, and social interaction. It also removes the requirement that an autism diagnosis must be made before a child's 10th birthday in order to receive health benefit plan coverage for treatment, and allows health benefit plans to limit, rather than require, coverage for applied behavior analysis for enrollees 10 years of age or older. The changes made by this bill apply to health benefit plans delivered, issued for delivery, or renewed on or after January 1, 2024.
