This bill establishes the "Blue Star Family" license plate in Massachusetts. The bill allows the registrar to provide, without charge, a distinctive "Blue Star Family" license plate or emblem to the parent, child, or spouse of a police officer who was killed in the line of duty. The bill defines "killed in the line of duty" as meeting the eligibility criteria for inclusion on the National Law Enforcement Memorial in Washington, D.C. The distinctive plate or emblem can be used for one private passenger vehicle or motorcycle owned and principally used by the eligible person.
