This bill establishes a new Blue Star Family license plate in Massachusetts to honor police officers killed in the line of duty. The bill requires the registrar to provide, free of charge, a distinctive "Blue Star Family" license plate or emblem to the parent, child, or spouse of a police officer who was killed while on duty. The eligibility criteria for the plate or emblem is based on the requirements for being listed on the National Law Enforcement Memorial in Washington, D.C. The bill also allows the registrar to issue a distinctive "Blue Star Family" registration plate of up to 6 characters for one private passenger vehicle owned and used by the eligible family member.
