This bill amends the Massachusetts General Laws to require all public schools with grades kindergarten through five to provide at least 100 minutes of supervised, unstructured free-play recess per week, with a minimum of 20 consecutive minutes per day. The bill also prohibits public elementary schools from decreasing the amount of recess time provided to students, even if required to adopt new standards or curriculum. The term "free play" is defined as an unstructured environment supervised by school personnel or staff, and the regulations cannot exclude recess from structured learning time requirements or increase the total number of school hours required.
