This bill amends Chapter 31, Section 58 of the General Laws to allow a city or town to consider an applicant as having resided in that city or town for one year immediately prior to the date of the examination, if the applicant has obtained a high school diploma from a school in that city or town or resided in that city or town when they received their high school diploma, and the legislative body of the city or town votes to do so. This change to the civil service resident preference law aims to make it easier for applicants who have a connection to the city or town to meet the residency requirement for civil service positions.
