Bill Summary

Relative to a civil service resident preference for certain municipal police officers and firefighters. Public Service.

AI Summary

This bill amends the third paragraph of Section 58 of Chapter 31 of the Massachusetts General Laws to allow a city or town, by a vote of the legislative body, to consider an applicant as having resided in that city or town for one year immediately prior to the date of the examination, if the applicant so chooses and has obtained a high school diploma from a school in that city or town or resided in that city or town when they received their high school diploma. This provides a civil service resident preference for certain municipal police officers and firefighters.
